The Devil Wears Prada is officially coming back. Nearly 20 years after the iconic film first graced theaters, the beloved characters are reuniting for a long-awaited sequel that officially starts filming this week. Original cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all returning to reprise their iconic roles. Joining the cast for the sequel is Oscar-winner Kenneth Branagh, who is set to portray Miranda Priestly’s husband.
The 2006 original, directed by David Frankel and based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel of the same name, follows aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she navigates the cutthroat fashion world under Miranda Priestly (Streep), the formidable editor of Runway magazine. The film became a box office success, earning over $320 million globally and securing Streep an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
Details surrounding the sequel’s plot remain under wraps, but early reports hint at a dramatic shift for Runway. With the print world in decline, Priestly faces new challenges as the magazine struggles to stay relevant. Meanwhile, Blunt’s character, no longer just an assistant, has risen through the fashion world ranks and is now a top executive at a luxury conglomerate that holds major influence over Runway‘s ad revenue.
The sequel was officially teased on social media in a nostalgia-filled announcement video, featuring well-known lines from the first film, including Miranda’s infamous monologue about cerulean sweaters.
Filming will take place across New York and Italy, with an expected release date of May 1, 2026. One thing’s for sure: The Devil Wears Prada 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of 2026.
