Scary Movie stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall are officially reuniting to return for the franchise’s sixth film, planned for next year.

The new film was announced back in April of 2024, with Miramax producing and Paramount Pictures set to distribute. Later that year, it was announced that Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans would be returning to produce and develop the project and write the script, but no cast had been revealed yet.

On August 15, 2025, Marlon Wayans posted an image on his Instagram of Hall and Faris from the original Scary Movie with a simple caption that included the “eyes” emoji with “SM6” underneath it, indicating that the two stars would be returning and setting off a flurry of celebratory reactions from fans.

The Scary Movie film series, which debuted in 2000 and spawned four sequels, parodies the horror film genre with timely pop culture references and slapstick comedy, and while none of them has been especially well regarded by audiences or critics, they have inspired a devoted cult fanbase over the years. Faris and Hall have starred in every installment except for the fifth, which also happens to carry the lowest Tomatometer and Popcornmeter scores (4% and 38%, respectively).

In a statement, the star duo said, “We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).” Scary Movie 6 is currently scheduled to open in theaters on June 12, 2026.
