"Tom" Wants to Modernize the Seriously Outdated "Mr. Mom"

With each new week comes at least three new remake announcements, and Variety reports one of the newest: newcomer screenwriter Adam Gibgot just sold his "Stay at Home Tom" script to New Line for a solid little paycheck. The project is described as "a modern take on 1983’s "Mr. Mom" based on (Gibgot’s) own experience staying at home with his two kids." Pardon me for editorializing here, but how does one do a "modern take" on 1983?
