On the same day that Fox finally (and officially!) announced James Cameron‘s "Avatar," Paramount announced that M. Night Shyamalan will be directed "Avatar: The Last Airbender." (Or at least that’s what they’re calling it right now, cuz nobody steals a movie title from James Cameron.)
According to IGN and Variety, "Airbender" will be a live-action rendition of the Nickelodeon cartoon series. (And yes, they’re thinking ‘franchise’ all the way here.) Apparently the plot is about three good elements (earth, water, air) and one evil one (fire, obviously). If anyone out there has actually seen the cartoon, toss us a more compelling plot synopsis than that one.
So after the double-beatdown that "The Village" and "Lady in the Water" received, is M. Night looking for his own "Spy Kids"-type trilogy? Sure seems like it.
