"Star Trek" Rumor Squashed Before It Gets Started

by | February 2, 2007 | Comments

Apparently there was an internet rumor floating around yesterday, one that said "Hey guys, J.J. Abrams is no longer attached to Paramount’s new "Star Trek" reboot!" But less than 24 hours later, the rumor has been debunked by a pair of websites. Whether or not that’s good news is entirely up to you.

It was LatinoReview.com that originally offered the information (although to be fair, they did mention it as "A RUMOR"), but then the guys from IGN Movies and AICN stepped in to see what the story was, and apparently it was all silly gossip. And here I am reporting on not only the gossip, but the fact that it was entirely untrue. Weird.

The 11th "Star Trek" movie is still moving forward at the same pace, and by that I mean "s-l-o-w-l-y." But rest assured that Mr. Abrams is still on the job.

According to its listing on IMDB, Abrams and Co. have a script locked down and are still in pre-production; a release date is listed for July 2008.
