Sarandon Compares Wahlberg and Gosling in Lovely Bones

It's a very clean set, apparently.

There was a surprising shakeup on the set of The Lovely Bones when Ryan Gosling left the project, after gaining weight for the role and anticipating the film in the press. Mark Wahlberg replaced him, and now his costars are making the adjustment. Susan Sarandon spent rehearsal time with both actors.

“We had been with Ryan a few weeks, not shooting, just rehearsing,” said Sarandon. “Mark just joined the cast. I shot with him for the first time Friday and I know him a little bit from when [partner] Tim [Robbins] worked with him. He seems very enthusiastic.”

It may all work out for the best, but Sarandon felt the loss. “Mark is definitely older, but I really don’t want to get into that. There is no dirt, really. It was just sad. There is no dirt.”

Other than that, things are still looking up for the adaptation of the beloved novel. “There is a nice atmosphere. We haven’t been doing too much. I am definitely the comic relief in that one. I loved Heavenly Creatures, and I think this is more in keeping with that. Everybody involved is very talented. I love that book. I read it a long time ago. And I think the Heaven part will be even more interesting in the film because it kind of lost me in the book. I am kind of interested in seeing it because of that. Heaven is in New Zealand.”
