Poorna Jagannathan Talks the Absolute Chaos and Joy of Filming Deli Boys Season 2 – The Awards Tour Podcast
Jagannathan also breaks down her character's hilarious one-liners and fabulous fits.
This week on the The Awards Tour Podcast, host Jacqueline Coley chats with Poorna Jagannathan about season 2 of the Certifed Fresh hit show Deli Boys. In this episode, Jagannathan dives deep into scene-stealing character Lucky and her relationship with the “incompetent, dumb baby-men” she is surrounded by. She also shares what it was like working with the actors who play them and breaks down all of Lucky’s hilarious one-liners and fabulous fits.
Jacqueline Coley for Rotten Tomatoes: Lucky is the craziest character. How did she come to you? Because she is not the typical role we’ve seen for Indian or South Asian actors on screen.
Poorna Jagannathan: [Abdullah Saeed], the creator, saw me in Never Have I Ever and was like, ‘What if we turn this mom into a gangster? What would happen if we took this actress known as a motherly figure and turned it on its head?’ So that’s how it came to me. I read the script, I got the offer, and I cannot tell you how much this is in my wheelhouse. I cannot describe to you how I finally got the character that encompasses so much of my humor, how I think, what I wanna do in the world. It’s my favorite character I’ve ever played. Never Have I Ever is the closest character I’ve ever played and Lucky is so out there, and yet it, I have so much fun playing her and I have so much fun working with the boys.
