The 5 Most Anticipated Movies of September
This month's top picks include zombies, superheroes, aliens, witches, and a determined news correspondent.
As Spider-Man and Odysseus continue to rack up the summer box office dollars, we now enter a somewhat less exciting period of theatrical releases. But that doesn’t automatically mean there’s nothing fresh or exciting coming in the next few weeks. We’ve got some familiar faces, some buzzworthy horror, some comedy, some action, and more.
We asked you to cast your votes for the movies you’re most looking forward to in September, and while there honestly weren’t too many surprises, the list turned out to be a pretty solid one. Read on for the 5 Most Anticipated Movies of September, according to you!
1. Resident Evil
Release Date: September 18, 2026
Considering the reception to writer-director Zach Cregger’s Weapons last year and the iconic nature of the Resident Evil video game series, it should be no surprise that this new big-screen adaptation of Resident Evil managed to top this month’s list. Not only is Cregger at the helm with one of his Weapons stars (Austin Abrams) in the lead, but the franchise reboot promises to be a more authentic representation of the game, even as it tells an original story. In other words, we’re gonna see freaky zombies wreaking havoc on Raccoon City as opposed to a gun-toting Milla Jovovich battling her way through an increasingly absurd sci-fi apocalypse. Not that that version didn’t have its fans, of course.
2. Avengers: Endgame Encore
Release Date: September 25, 2026
Avengers: Doomsday is easily one of the most anticipated films of the year, and to capitalize on that, Disney and Marvel are releasing Avengers: Endgame Encore. The film that ended the Infinity Saga back in 2019 is being re-released with a new introduction, four minutes of additional footage, and a new end-credits scene that will reportedly tie the film more directly to Doomsday. In other words, this is catnip for any MCU fan, and this month’s poll bears that out.
3. Primetime
Release Date: September 25, 2026
It’s been a few years now since we’ve been able to stop describing Robert Pattinson’s career in relation to his stint in the Twilight movies. He has successfully shed that franchise and then some. Primetime only continues his upward trajectory, playing Dateline NBC correspondent Chris Hansen as he develops and launches the groundbreaking investigative show To Catch a Predator. The show has, of course, endured its fair share of controversy, as has this film, but that hasn’t diminished the anticipation for what Pattinson will do with the role, which, based on the trailers, promises to be fascinating.
4. Practical Magic 2
Release Date: September 10, 2026
Has it really been almost 30 years since the first Practical Magic? Why, yes, yes it has. And maybe that’s why fans are so excited to see Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return to the roles of Sally and Gillian Owens in Practical Magic 2. This time around, the sisters and their witchy aunts (Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, also returning) travel to the UK to end the curse plaguing their family after Sally’s daughter (played by Joey King) begins to develop her own abilities. The original film has amassed a cult following, so it only makes sense there would be excitement over seeing these characters on screen again.
5. Hope
Release Date: September 9, 2026
Those who have kept their eyes on South Korean cinema know Na Hong-jin well, particularly for his 2008 thriller The Chaser and his 2016 horror masterpiece The Wailing. His latest is Hope, a dark sci-fi spectacle set in a remote village where the local police and a group of hunters attempt to track down and eliminate a mysterious creature that has been terrorizing the villagers. Don’t watch the trailer if you’d rather go in cold, but we’ll add that a few recognizable names do show up in unexpected roles, and it’s clear what folks have seen of the film has left them supremely intrigued.
