While it’s been confirmed that "Mission: Impossible 3" director J.J. Abrams will be producing and/or directing an all-new "Star Trek" movie for Paramount, the rest of the news surrounding the project seems to be gossip, at best. And here’s a new one: Apparently Mr. Abrams has his heart set on casting Matt Damon as the new Captain Kirk? Really?
From Yahoo! TV Insider: "I’m told J.J. ABRAMS is very interested in casting the Oscar-winning Damon as a young Captain Kirk in the upcoming ‘Star Trek’ movie that he’s directing and producing. He’s so interested that he’s apparently already sought support from the original Kirk, WILLIAM SHATNER. "Shatner gave his blessing," my source says. "J.J. got his approval."
So if this is true … what would have happened if Shatner had said "No. I want Bow Wow in the Kirk role."?
