Marvel Preps "Uber" Captain America

Stephen Colbert may hang Captain America’s shield on his shelf, but for most people the idea of the ultimate patriotic superhero may be problematic in today’s political climate. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is ready to deal with that when he brings the comic book hero to the screen.

"I think we’ll certainly have to play with that and play with Captain America being this patriotic propaganda machine on one hand but also be a very human Steve Rogers, interesting, fascinating hero in his own right," said Feige while on the set of still in-production "Iron Man."

Luckily, even our enemies may unite for comic books. "The good news is Marvel is perceived pretty well around the world right now and I think putting another uber Marvel hero into the worldwide box office will be a good thing."

Times always change, so this will only be the most recent universe Rogers has faced in his red, white and blue crusade. "The script, the director that we end up hiring, certainly we’re going into it with our eyes open but these are all things we have to deal with, much the same way that Captain America when thawed from the arctic ice entered a world he didn’t recognize and had to deal with the changes, whether it was when Stan [Lee] did it in the early ’60s and that world Steve Rogers was coming into, or the world of 2009."

Speaking of which, would a new Captain America be period or modern? "Right now what we’re developing would be about half and half I’d say."
