Variety brings some news that’s been long-anticipated by fans of author Steve Alten: "MEG" is officially a go project. Although Disney held onto the rights for a while, New Line swooped in and picked up the property in turnaround. NL plans to get busy right away on production, as they’re shooting for a Summer ’06 release date. Often described in shorthand as "Jurassic Shark," "MEG" tells the story of a prehistoric megalodon shark who swims out of a fissure and starts eating everything in sight.Alten wrote the first draft; screenwriter Shane Salerno ("Armageddon," "Shaft") is also helping out on the screenplay end.
