When you’re as great as Federico Fellini, there’s really no reason to let a silly little thing like being dead stop you from making movies.
As proof, here’s a Hollywood Reporter item about Viaggio a Tulum, a Fellini story written in 1985 but never adapted for film — until now, that is. From the RomaCinemaFest comes word that work on a Viaggo adaptation will commence early next year:
The film, which will center on Fellini’s trip to Mexico to meet the famous mystic Carlos Castaneda, will be filmed in Mexico and at Rome’s Cinecitta Studios, with a budget of at least €3.5 million ($5 million).
Filming is expected to start Jan. 20, 2008, which would have been the 88th birthday for Fellini, who died in 1993.
Documentarian Marco Bartoccioni has agreed to direct Viaggo a Tulum, while Tullio Pinelli will share screenwriting credit with Fellini. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s leads will be named at the Cancun Film Festival next month.
