Celebrated stage and screen actress Stockard Channing will be stepping behind the camera for her next project; she’ll be making her directorial debut with "The Joy of Funerals," based on the short stories by Alix Strauss.

The screenplay, adapted by Ms. Strauss personally, is about "the darkly comic misadventures of Nina, a thirtysomething New Yorker, who, looking for love in all the wrong places, crashes the funerals of total strangers."

Production on "The Joy of Funerals" is scheduled for next spring.
