A Second Helping of "Butterfly" (Hold the Kutcher)

New Line aims to produce a sequel to last year’s modest hit "The Butterfly Effect" — but don’t expect to see Ashton Kutcher on board. According to Variety, the "pic will have all new characters, meaning (the) original’s star, Ashton Kutcher, isn’t expected to be involved." The follow-up will be directed by John Leonetti ("Mortal Kombat: Annihilation") from a screenplay by Michael Weiss ("Octopus," "Crocodile"). Creators of the original "Butterfly Effect," Eric Bress & J. Mackye Gruber, will receive a ‘story by’ credit on the sequel. Bress & Gruber are presently working on "A Cool Breeze on the Underground," also for New Line.
