Want to know if your favorite television series is among the latest cancelled TV shows? Bookmark this page to learn about Netflix cancelled shows, when network series get the axe, and which cable TV limited series are being reworked as anthologies to squeeze every single drop of fan love out of them.

How it works: Renewals are obvious: new season = yay! When a network or streaming service announces that they’re not making another season of a show, however, we count that as cancelled (or “canceled” if you spell it without SEO considerations). Sure, some shows “come to a natural end,” but someone somewhere said “enough,” and to avoid endless discussions about whether a title was “cancelled” or “retired” — “Daredevil and Empire were cancelled, but Game of Thrones died peacefully of old age!” — we’re going with the one designation. Feel free to debate specific titles in the comments if you wish. But first, learn which series will live on, which have been resurrected — which is happening more and more frequently — and which have reached their expiration date.

HBO has announced a third season of its trippy fantasy series, His Dark Materials. However, fans of this adaptation of author Phillip Pullman’s work should note that this will be the last chapter in the series. The story focuses on Dafne Keen’s Lyra, an extremely brave young woman who happens to be from another world. Other cast members for the second season include Ruth Wilson, Amir Wilson, Ariyon Bakare, Andrew Scott, Will Keen, Ruta Gedmintas and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The show has a cumulative 80% Tomatometer for its first two seasons.

Buckle up, folks. Because HBO Max has cleared a second season of The Flight Attendant for takeoff. The psychological thriller stars Kaley Cuoco as Cassie Bowden, a globe-trotting flight attendant and party girl who gets an unwelcome surprise when she wakes up after a black-out night in a foreign country: The man she’d flirted with on the flight over (Michiel Huisman) is lying dead next to her. Now Cassie must solve the case before the feds — or the killer — find her. The first season is Certified Fresh with a 98% Tomatometer.

Brush off those lab coats. Peacock has renewed comedy A.P. Bio for a fourth season. The comedy, which aired on NBC for its first two seasons, stars Glenn Howerton as a former Harvard professor now relegated to teach high school biology (and make his students do his bidding). Other faculty members include Patton Oswalt as Principal Ralph Durbin and Paula Pell as his secretary, Helen Henry Demarcus. The first three seasons have a cumulative 88% Tomatometer.

Hulu has canceled the gritty horror/superhero series Marvel’s Helstrom after one season. The show, which has a 27% Tomatometer score, starred Tom Austen and Sydney Lemmon as Daimon and Ana Helstrom — the children of a serial killer who are also on the hunt for horrible people.

Locke and Key (Netflix)

Netflix has set February 7 for the premiere of Locke and Key, the Carlton Cuse–produced adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s IDW comic book series that has been in development for more than a decade. The mystery series revolves around the Locke family, three siblings and their mother who move into their ancestral home – Keyhouse – after the murder of their father. Keyhouse, as the Lockes quickly discover, is filled with magical keys that hold special powers. That draws out a demon who wants to steal the keys, which may have played a role in the murder of the Locke paterfamilias. The series stars Darby Stanchfield (Scandal), Jackson Robert Scott (IT), and Connor Jessup (American Crime).

The Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) returns with the launch of season 12 on Wednesday, January 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT with friends Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yasmin (Mandip Gill) and Graham (Bradley Walsh). Subsequent episodes will air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT beginning January 5 on BBC America. The season kicks off with a two-part episode entitled “Spyfall.”

Last season on The Magicians, magic was saved, but at a terrible cost: Quentin Coldwater died heroically to save his friends — and the world. Julia (Stella Maeve), Alice (Olivia Taylor Dudley), Eliot (Hale Appleman), Margo (Summer Bishil), Penny (Arjun Gupta), and their friends (and frenemies) must learn to navigate a world without him. In season 5, premiering January 15 at 10 p.m. ET/9C, a new threat has arisen: in freeing magic, the balance tipped the other way and there’s too damn much of it. As the excess builds, an apocalypse looms.

Cantankerous Larry David returns for season 10 of his HBO drama in January. Vince Vaughn joins the fun in a multi-episode arc.

Better Call Saul will return with a two-night premiere event on February 23 and 24, 2020. The fifth season will premiere on Sunday, February 23 at 10 p.m. ET/9C following a new episode of The Walking Dead. The season will continue the next night, Monday, February 24, with an encore presentation of the season premiere at 8 p.m. ET/7C followed by the season’s second episode at 9 p.m. ET/8C. Subsequent episodes will air Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET/8C. The new season will find Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill finally embracing his Saul Goodman persona to practice law, and the fallout that ensues for everyone around him, including fellow attorney and girlfriend Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), fixer Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), meth kingpin/restauranteur Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), and Jimmy’s criminal associate Nacho Varga (Michael Mando).

Find out when the rest of your favorite shows return and new shows premiere below.

Update (12/12): Pavarotti (Dec. 30), Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Jan. 24), Next in Fashion (Jan. 29), Briarpatch (Feb. 6), The Sinner (Feb. 6), Interrogation (Feb. 6), Wrong Man (Feb. 9), Hillary (Mar. 6), Ride with Norman Reedus (Mar. 8); Messiah (Jan. 1)

Sure, some shows “come to a natural end,” but someone somewhere said “enough,” and to avoid endless discussions about whether a title was “cancelled” or “retired” — “Daredevil was cancelled and Empire is cancelled, but Game of Thrones died peacefully of old age!” — we’re going with the one designation. Feel free to debate specific titles in the comments if you wish, but first, learn which series will live on, which have been resurrected — which is happening more and more frequently — and which have reached their expiration date.

Another renewal ahead of a debut: Apple TV+ has renewed M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant for a second season, Shyamalan revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, Rupert Grint, and Nell Tiger Free star in the psychological thriller, which follows a Philadelphia couple in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage and opens the door for a mysterious force to enter their home. The series joins Apple Originals Dickinson, For All MankindSee, and The Morning Show, which received second-season orders.

Amazon has renewed The Lord of the Rings for season 2, while season 1 is still early in pre-production in New Zealand, Deadline reported. Season 1 will have a break in filming so that the writers room can reassemble to write season 2 scripts, which may allow simultaneous or back-to-back filming of seasons 1 and 2. The series is expected in 2021.

Marvel’s Runaways is the latest series developed under Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb to get the axe. Loeb is expected to announce his exit before the Thanksgiving holiday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. All 1o episodes of the young superhero series’ third season will drop on Hulu on December 13.

It’s official: The Mandalorian season 2 is underway. Earlier this year, series creator Jon Favreau revealed that he was working on season 2 scripts, but, as any film or TV writer can tell you, a script does not equal a green light. In a post on Instagram, Favreau sent “Greetings from the set of #TheMandalorian season 2,” which is enough proof for us.

Leave it to magical monster hunter Geralt of Rivia to find a way to return before he’s even arrived. Netflix has renewed fantasy series The Witcher for season 2 ahead of its premiere. Henry Cavill stars as the titular adventurer in the series that launches on December 20. The series, based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novels and short stories, also stars Freya Allan as Ciri and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Daredevil) is showrunner on the title, which will likely find an audience with gamers thanks to CD Projekt Red’s enormously popular and critically-acclaimed video game series based on the character.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JUNE 12: Ella Purnell attends the "Sweetbitter" Season Two NY premiere on June 12, 2019 at The Roxy Cinema in New York City. (Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for STARZ)

(Photo by Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for STARZ)

Ella Purnell splashed on the scene with a standout role in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and has since appeared, with Bill Nighy and Matthew Goode, in the critically acclaimed Ordeal By Innocence, which was Certified Fresh at 94% on the Tomatometer and U.S. audiences saw on Amazon. She also played teen Maleficent in the 2014 live-action Disney film that starred Angelina Jolie as the titular Sleeping Beauty villain.

The actress is all grown up now and starring as Tess, a 22-year-old who tackles the competitive New York City restaurant scene, in Starz drama Sweetbitter. At the end of the first season, Tess got her coveted job in Howard’s (Paul Sparks) restaurant, which was only the beginning of the drama for Purnell’s character.

In the season 2 premiere, Howard takes his staff to a farm to see where the food they prepare comes. It seems to affect Tess deeply, and she starts calling some of the chefs out on their cavalier attitude toward their ingredients. There also might be a bright spot in her relationship with Simone (Caitlin FitzGerald) — but how long can it last?

When Rotten Tomatoes caught up with Purnell, she told us of her love for Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s work and what’s in store for her character in season 2.

WHAT’S ON YOUR DVR?

Killing Eve Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and Eve (Sandra Oh) (BBC America)

I don’t generally watch that much live TV because I’m always in different time zones and traveling around so much. I can tell you which TV shows I watch every single night religiously when I binge-watch them.

My first one has to be Killing Eve, because it’s incredible. I’m obsessed with it. I’m obsessed with Jodie Comer. I’m obsessed with Sandra Oh. I’m really fascinated by shows with female leads, written by females. I know season 1 was Phoebe Waller-Bridge. I don’t think she did the second season, but I still really like the second season. I’ll be intrigued to see where they go after this. I actually first heard about Killing Eve when I was doing press for Sweetbitter because everybody kept comparing Tess and Simone to Villanelle and Eve. That’s how I got into it and they are pretty similar. I love the way that relationship is built.

WHAT’S ON YOUR STREAMING QUEUE?

Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Fleabag season 2 (Credit: Steve Schofield/Amazon Prime)

Fleabag. I love it. It’s too short though. I need more than six episodes, because it’s so addictive. I think I binge-watched the whole first season in one night. It’s so brilliant. The humor is amazing, and it’s interesting once you know that Phoebe is involved in both [Fleabag and Killing Eve]. You can absolutely recognize her writing style and the way she brings characters to life. It’s super unique and so smart. She’s brilliant.

There is a show that I can’t stop watching. It’s called Easy. I think that show’s been on for a while, but it just hit Netflix, so I’ve only just kind of discovered it. It’s set in Chicago, and each episode is like an anthology series. It starts off as an anthology series, but I think halfway through season 1 you get to meet the characters from episode one again later. Then by season 2 and season 3, you’re following the same four or five story lines except for then they add new story lines every other episode. Each one is different, but it kind of all centers around relationships, friendships, marriages, couples, all sexualities, all genders. It’s so interesting, all ages. Evan Jonigkeit, who plays Will in Sweetbitter, is on Easy. I was watching the show and I was like, Oh, that’s Evan. And I texted him, “I love your show.” I think it’s all mostly improv and the guys that do it are just like friends who get together and make this thing. It’s such a cool concept, I love it.

My last one is Black Mirror. I am always obsessed with Black Mirror. I will watch it. I watched it last night. I rewatch episodes, and every time I rewatch an episode, I learn something new. I’m obsessed with Black Mirror.

And Mrs. Maisel — I have to say that.

That’s my top five.

WHAT’S COMING SOON THAT YOU CAN’T WAIT FOR?

Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep (Credit: Jennifer Clasen/HBO)

Oh, I haven’t seen Big Little Lies yet. I loved the first season and I love Meryl Streep, so I would say Big Little Lies season 2. The Crown season 3 and 4, I think, have finished filming already. Maybe they haven’t finished yet, but … Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham-Carter are two of my top five favorite actresses, so I cannot wait to watch that. Really excited for that one.

Sweetbitter season 2 (Starz)

Fred Topel for Rotten Tomatoes: Is visiting the farm a game changer for Tess?

Ella Purnell: Definitely. I think it’s pretty symbolic of them switching it up. It’s a way of Howard switching things up in the restaurant industry, making everyone aware that sh–’s about to change. But for Tess, it’s also like, Hey, don’t think that just because you’ve got the job that you’re done. That happening wakes her up, I think, from any idea of complacency. Also her reaction to it surprises herself; her curiosity and interest in it reminds her not to underestimate herself and it reminds her that there’s so much stuff she hasn’t seen, so much stuff she hasn’t experienced.

It seems to change her attitude in the kitchen. Will that continue?

Oh, definitely. Absolutely, yeah. In part, it’s having a better understanding and appreciation for dining as a whole experience, but also the intensity behind it. I think it’s a good reminder to Tessa, like it’s a job. This is kind of each man for himself out there, and I think that becomes apparent in the last scene of the season with a scene between Tess and Howard. She does something really ballsy, really ballsy. And it’s really interesting. I’m really interested to see what people make of that last scene. It’s dramatic.

Sweetbitter keyart season 2 (Starz)

Does Tess and Simone’s relationship become more harmonious?

Yeah, I would say so. Well, no, actually. For like a brief second. Episode two they have an incredible bonding experience. You find out a bit more about Tess’s backstory and Tess’s mother and perhaps get an inkling as to why she’s so attracted to Simone, what their relationship is about. I don’t really know. It’s painful. I’m really interested in the relationship. I’m really interested in female relationships in general. I think she’s just as in love with Simone as she is with Jake, so she’s hypersensitive to any changed or nuances in their relationship. I think it’s really painful for Tess.

Does Tess’ journey in the restaurant industry have any parallels to yours as an actor?

Definitely. I always think it’s so funny how art imitates life in a weird way. Definitely last year was so funny because it was my first time in New York. It was my first time doing TV. So everything she was doing, everything she was experiencing, I was experiencing too for the first time. I’d never worked in this industry, and I was thrown into this new industry. What I mean by that is movies and TV, American television is totally different from anything I’ve ever done, so I was thrown into this thing that I was trying to figure out and keep up with and look like I knew what I was doing in the same way that Tess is. And then the gratification it gives you when you seize life for all its worth is incredible. I moved to New York after we finished filming, and I feel like it’s changed my life, not in a cheesy corny way, but genuinely changed the course of my life.

Sweetbitter new episodes air Sundays on Starz.

We had a look back at the year that was to see which network or streaming service had the best year and which had the worst, looking at their highest- and lowest-scoring series that received Tomatometer scores. From well-loved and award-nominated to yawn-inducing and cringe-worthy, the titles on our list have either entertained or dismayed TV fans all year. To compile the list, we compared the Tomatometer scores of the most recent seasons and the number of reviews for each title.

Some networks are so on-point that both their best and worst series are Fresh — some even Certified Fresh, like BBC America’s Killing Eve and Doctor Who. While Netflix’s top series was Certified Fresh at 100%, the streaming giant also had the series with the lowest score. CBS had the worst year overall by Tomatometer, with its top title, season 1 of Young Sheldon (which ended in May 2018), scoring a modest 76% and its lowest scoring title this year, Living Biblically, in second-to-last place and receiving only 18%. (Season 2 of Young Sheldon kicked off in September and continues into 2019, but has not yet received a score.)

In order to qualify, a show’s 2018 season had to have at least 10 reviews; a few exceptions, however, are Claws, Portlandia, and Mr. Mercedes, which were included for comparison with their “best” or “worst” counterparts on each respective network that did qualify (that is, The Alienist, Brockmire, and Condor).

The lowest-rated series on the list is Netflix’s Insatiable, which is Rotten at 12% with 50 reviews. The highest-rated are NBC’s The Good Place, which is Certified Fresh at 100% with 38 reviews, followed closely by YouTube’s Cobra Kai, which is also Certified Fresh at 100%, but with 36 reviews.

Check out the full list of the best and worst by network below.

Gather ’round, witches and warlocks: Netflix has ordered 16 new episodes of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, in addition to the nine-episode Part Two that is set to premiere on April 5, 2019.

Said creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa in a statement announcing the news,  “Praise Satan! I’m so grateful to my partners at Warner Brothers, Netflix, Berlanti Television, and Archie Productions for supporting this darker vision of the world’s most famous teen witch. And I’m thrilled to be continuing to tell Sabrina’s chilling adventures with our incredible cast and crew, led by the unstoppable Kiernan Shipka.”

The new episodes will air in two parts (Parts Three and Four), and will begin filming in 2019. The series’ holiday special, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale, debuted on Dec. 14.

She’s back! Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is returning to Amazon for its second season on Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Season 2 will see Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) dealing with the fallout from her takedown of Sophie Lennon, making her climb up the comedy ladder even more challenging — especially since she’s still keeping her new career as a standup comedian a secret from her family.

Recently added (updated 12/3): History Remembers George H.W. Bush (Dec. 5), Mysterious Islands (Dec. 26), Great Performances: The Bernstein Centennial Celebration (Dec. 28)

Seasons and films must have at least 10 reviews to be included. Certified Fresh scores indicate that the title has gotten a Fresh rating by more than 20 reviewers for series and more than 40 reviewers for TV or streaming films; in each case, at least five reviews must be from “Top Reviewers” to be Certified Fresh.

The final ranking reflects an adjusted score calculated based on the number of reviews a series has; for example, if one title has 10 reviews and a 100% score, while another has 45 reviews and a 99% score, the second title ranks higher because of the larger pool of critics’ opinions used to form the score.

Final Update: Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert ; America to Me, season 1; Aggretsuko, season 1; John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City; Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife; Hannah Gadsby: Nanette; Making It, season 1; and Random Acts of Flyness, season 1; Insatiable, season 1; The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time; The Package; Deep State, season 1; Archer: Danger Island; Alone Together, season 1; Disenchantment, season 1; Ozark, season 2; Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, season 1; Snowfall, season 2; One Strange Rock, miniseries; Ghoul, season 1; Orange Is the New Black, season 6; The Innocents, season 1; Ordeal By Innocence, miniseries; Bobby Kennedy for President, season 1; Crime + Punishment; To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before; Insecure, season 3
