After years of eager anticipation, the beloved medical comedy Scrubs from the 2000s is officially making its way back to television. While the revival has been known to be in development since December 2024, fans now finally get their first glimpse of which original cast members are coming back. The show will feature a blend of familiar faces alongside new characters when it premieres in the 2025-26 season on ABC.

Original star Zach Braff is already on board, joined by fellow original cast members Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke, who will reprise their iconic roles as John “JD” Dorian, Chris Turk, and Elliot Reid. Reports indicate that additional original cast members are likely to return, much to the excitement of longtime fans.

In the reboot, JD (Braff) and Turk (Faison) will scrub in together again after some time apart. Although medicine and the interns have changed, their friendship remains as strong as ever. Alongside returning favorites, fresh faces will navigate the halls of Sacred Heart.

Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra, both veterans of the original Scrubs writing team, will serve as executive producers and showrunners for the revival. Bill Lawrence will executive produce through his Doozer Productions, with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer also on board. Braff, Faison, and Chalke will join the production team as executive producers as well.

Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together,” Lawrence shared, reflecting the enthusiasm driving the project.

Originally, Scrubs aired for nine seasons from 2001 to 2010, seven seasons on NBC and the last two on ABC. The series chronicled JD’s journey from a medical intern to an experienced doctor, alongside his best friend Turk and on-again, off-again partner Elliot. The original cast also featured Judy Reyes, John C. McGinley, Neil Flynn, and Ken Jenkins, many of whom remain fan favorites. Fans hope the reboot can honor the spirit of the original while introducing Sacred Heart to a whole new generation.
