RT Recommends: Our Favorite Movies This Week
If you were to ask any member of our staff for a recommendation on what to watch, chances are we’d have a slew of titles to share. We’re exposed to a lot of movies here at Rotten Tomatoes, and we’re not mad about it. That’s why we’ve put together this weekly guide of films, staff picks in alphabetical order, that we recommend you check out every week.
If you’re looking to honor the life and career of American icon Dolly Parton, below you’ll find a handful of her films, including Steel Magnolias (an audience favorite), where she stars alongside Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, and Daryl Hannah. And speaking of iconic actors, celebrate the life of beloved actor Tim Curry by streaming a few of his movies, also listed below, including The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Stephen King’s It, where critic Tony Atherton wrote: “Curry imbues the apparition with such an alarming mix of goofiness and malevolence” as the original Pennywise. As we make our way through the 10th annual Studio Ghibli Fest, perhaps you’re looking to explore some of the studio’s most well-received films. In case you missed it, My Neighbor Totoro was recently back in theaters and is now available to Stream on Fandango, along with Kiki’s Delivery Service, and more. “My 6-year-old twin nieces are hard to pin down; getting them to sit still for a movie, or one that they would agree to watch together, is even harder! When I suggested we watch My Neighbor Totoro, I was braced for failure, but was delighted when they loved it,” said Corey Arterian, Director, Data Products for RT. “One niece even insisted on eating her cucumber unsliced but rather bite by bite like Mei does in the movie. I knew Kiki’s Delivery Service would be a shoo-in, and indeed it was! These are beautiful films that are a joy to watch with childlike wonder, and it’s a refreshing break from the constant noise that so much kids’ media seems to imbue.”
