TAGGED AS: AMC, Horror, zombie
UPDATED with The Walking Dead’s new, full mid-season trailer above. Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) declares, “I am the answer,” while dying Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) shares a story about his mother with his dad, Rick (Andrew Lincoln).
When last we left Rick and the remnants of the Alexandrians, they had been run out of their home by Negan and the gang, who were hell-bent on revenge, while young Carl had a gnarly zombie bite on his tummy. Surely, this is the end for Carl! Or is it? Not quite yet anyway.
The new teaser for the mid-season return of season 8, which is currently hovering just Fresh of Tomatometer no man’s land at 69%, starts out showing Rick and Michonne (Danai Gurira) carrying a limp Carl away from the flames of Alexandria. Enid (Katelyn Nacon), meanwhile, clues us in that “the Saviors are coming.” In another shot, Negan agrees: “My people — they are comin’!” Got it. Saviors are on the move.
“Doesn’t matter,” voiceover Rick says. “It’s already too late. This is where you die.” Rick, a father whose kid has a death sentence, is — probably, just guessing here — a terrifying thing.
The writing is on the screen: “This February, it’s time to finish the fight.”
Over the break, the series was granted a ninth season, and showrunner-producer Scott M. Gimple was promoted to a new role as chief content officer overseeing the whole of The Walking Dead universe, including Fear the Walking Dead. Writer and co-executive producer Angela Kang takes the title of executive producer and showrunner starting with season nine.
