The Oscar Best Picture Showdown is officially over, and the RT community has crowned The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King as the best of the Best Pictures! In addition to Best Picture, Peter Jackson’s epic finale to the Lord of the Rings series was nominated for 10 more Oscars at the 2004 Academy Awards, including Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score, and it won every single one of them. That not only matched the most wins for a single film at the Oscars (Ben-Hur and Titanic previously achieved the same distinction), but set the record for the most wins by a film that took home the trophy in every category in which it was nominated. Here, Return of the King defeated all of its opponents, from classic films like All Quiet on the Western Front and The French Connection to more recent hits like Spotlight and No Country for Old Men, by a wide margin before facing off against The Godfather, and even then, Return took the crown with a decisive 59% of the vote.

Over the course of this bracket’s six rounds, almost a million votes were tallied across all of the individual match-ups, so big thanks to everyone in the RT community who participated! Click below to see the results of all the prior rounds, and stay tuned for our next big bracket showdown!
