If you were anywhere near Hollywood & Highland on Saturday night, you probably heard screaming coming from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. CW stars from The Originals and The Vampire Diaries attended a double-header of panels for fans at PaleyFest 2014.
From The Originals, cast members Joseph Morgan (Klaus Mikaelson), Daniel Gillies (Elijah Mikaelson), Claire Holt (Rebekah Mikaelson), Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley), Charles Michael Davis (Marcel Gerard), Leah Pipes (Camille O’Connell) and Danielle Campbell (Davina) were there, along with the producers Julie Plec and Michael Narducci. Buzzfeed senior editor Jarett Wieselman moderated.
Here are the highlights:
1. Screaming:
There was a lot of confusion each time Daniel Gillies and/or Joseph Morgan were on the big screen behind the panel because the crowd would go wild each time one of their faces appeared.
2. Julie Plec on creating The Originals
“I thought, ‘Oh my God, Daniel Gillies is so awesome that he needs to be the brother of the character we haven’t even met yet … or cast yet.’ And once that started — these two magnificent actors are going to be brothers — well, then they need more. There needs to be a sister and, honestly, it just grew from there.”
3. Why New Orleans?
The Originals was not always set in New Orleans. Initially, the plan was Chicago, but since they wanted to shoot in Atlanta, the producers needed a setting with less water. Another option was Nashville.
4. Leah Pipes on being the only human:
Does Camille wonder how soon until she’s going to die? Pipes said, “It’s a glass half full or half empty situation.” She added that she tries to be nice to everyone on set all the time in hopes that they won’t kill her off the show.
5. Davina’s death:
“The day that script came out, I had a bunch of lines that day and hadn’t read the script yet, [but] everyone’s coming up to me on set,” Campbell said. “Eventually I started playing along and was like, ‘I can’t believe it’ and they were like, ‘Yeah, what’s up with you dying?'” Campbell was shocked, but found out later she would be coming back to life.
6. Will Rebekah be back?
Claire Holt decided to take a hiatus, but plans to be back after a little vacation and hopes there are many more stories to tell.
7. A game of ‘Kiss, Marry, Kill’ with Hayley:
When asked to choose between Elijah, Jackson or Klaus. Phoebe Tonkin said she’d kill Klaus (“Sorry, mate”), marry Elijah, and kiss Jackson.
8. Will there be another cross-over?:
Plec was vague and replied, “Yes … maybe … I don’t know.” How’s that for an answer?
9. New character possibilities
All of the ladies agreed that a mer-man would be a fine addition to the cast.
10. Is Joseph Morgan “Team Klaroline?”
Morgan never thought it was a good idea to have Caroline and Klaus merely hook up, but that’s how it went. Caroline deserves better.
