Seth Rogen helped carry
a rom-com past the $100 million
mark. He pulled director
David Gordon
Green out of his indie bubble with the upcoming
Pineapple
Express. Now, Rogen’s
scoring a plum writing gig with
The Green
Hornet. Dude, what’s next,
playing Brit Reid himself?
Stranger things have happened, reports L.A. Times. Not only has Columbia Pictures hired Rogen to
pen The Green Hornet, but it’s likely that he will even don the hallowed
green mask. Considering the franchise’s both camp and obscure these days, perhaps
looking for a tongue-in-cheek adaptation (somewhat in the vein of Edgar Wright’s upcoming
Ant-Man)?
The Green Hornet, originally a radio show from 1936 to 1952, chronicled the adventures of Brit Reid: newspaper publisher by day, crime
fighter by night. The franchise has spread into television, comic
books, and movie serials, but never as an official full-length feature.
Rogen is the latest name to be associated with the project.
Kevin
Smith and Ron Underwood were previously tapped to be directors, while
George
Clooney, Jake Gyllenhaal,
Mark Wahlberg, and
Jason Scott Lee were all rumored
to play Reid at one point or another.
Barring any unforeseen (though probably likely) circumstances, The Green
Hornet will be in theaters 2009.
