Spike Lee Blasts Hollywood's War Movies

Ever since breaking through with the searing "Do the Right Thing," Spike Lee’s movies are expected to come packaged with politick and moral outrage. Variety reports that Lee’s next joint will be of the same mind, aiming to rectify Hollywood’s depiction (or lack thereof) of black soldiers in World War II.

"If you look at the history of Hollywood, the black soldiers who fought World War II are totally invisible," said Lee during a Roman press conference, "This is the paradox: black people who were fighting for democracy but at the same time were second class citizens at home."

Lee’s $45 million war drama will focus black American soldiers stationed in Tuscany and battling the Germany army. Based on a screenplay from James McBride adapted from his novel, "Miracle of St. Anna," the still-untitled movie will begin shooting next year in Tuscany, Rome, and New York.
