Silent Bob Talks about Matt Damon & "Star Trek"

Not long ago we shared a widely-reported piece of gossip indicating that new "Star Trek" producer J.J. Abrams wanted to cast Matt Damon in the role of Captain Kirk. Turns out Damon’s old buddy Kevin Smith is as skeptical as I am…

From IGN FilmForce: "The Boston Herald chatted with "Clerks II" director Kevin Smith about his new film, his pal Ben Affleck‘s directing debut "Gone, Baby, Gone," as well as the rumor that Smith’s "Dogma" co-star Matt Damon may be in the running to play the young Captain Kirk in Paramount’s new "Star Trek" movie.

"I wonder if Matt would even do it," Smith told the Herald. "He’s usually not that interested in treading where others have trod. He likes to break new ground."

The Boston Herald smartly points out that, if that’s the case, then why is Damon set to appear in sequels such as "Ocean’s 13" and "The Bourne Ultimatum"?

Smith went on to suggest that, "if they wind up casting Matt as Kirk, they should cast Ben as Spock. It seems like a no-brainer!"
