Toni Collette has become something of a scream queen with turns in The Sixth SenseFright NightKrampus, and now Hereditary, the terrifying Sundance breakout some are saying will earn her an Oscar nod. But what draws her to the genre? She spoke with Rotten Tomatoes about her attraction to complex, and not always likable, characters, and why she thinks Hereditary director Ari Aster is a name to watch. Plus, we spoke with Alex Wolff and Milly Shapiro — who play the two children in the imperiled family at the center of the movie — about creating iconic, horrifying scenes, that “cluck” sound, and their favorite scary movies.
