"Ray" producer Howard Baldwin has been enlisted to help director Robert Redford bring his Jackie Robinson biopic to the big screen. Working from a screenplay by Emmy-winner Kirk Ellis ("Anne Frank: The Whole Story"), the film will "track Robinson’s upbringing in Southern California and center on the relationship between Robinson and Rickey. Robinson started for the Dodgers in 1947, enduring death threats, beanballs, abuse from fans, a rebellion by some of his teammates and the threat of a strike by the St. Louis Cardinals." No word yet on who will play the legendary athlete, but Variety says that Mr. Redford has snagged a role for himself: that of old-school Dodgers GM Branch Rickey.
