Variety brings word of a rather frenzied bidding war, the producer who won the battle, and the universally-praised book "The Tender Bar," by J.R. Moehringer.
Published earlier this week, the "autobiographical story tells how Moehringer, who grew up not knowing his father, found surrogates by haunting the Manhasset pub where his uncle tended bar. Moehringer eventually got a copyboy job at the New York Times and then became an L.A. Times reporter, winning a Pulitzer for feature writing."
Mr. Rudin is expected to set "Tender" up at a studio once he hires a director.
