We suspected something was up when months went by with nary a puppy-love peep nor a couch-jump from this summer’s most sensational (and overexposed) celebrity couple, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Finally, the twosome better known as TomKat have once again shuffled off the silent coil of privacy to announce to the world (via a People magazine exclusive) that they are expecting a baby. The news was confirmed Wednesday by Cruise’s sister-publicist, Lee Ann DeVette, who declined to comment on the baby’s gender or the length of future sister-in-law Holmes’ pregnancy. Cruise, 43, and Holmes, 26, have of course been dating since April and have been engaged since he notoriously proposed atop the Eiffel Tower last June. Following a stellar summer run in the public eye (who could forget the flash engagement, the Oprah couch-jumping, the Brooke Shields face-off, the anti-psychiatry crusade!), Cruise has been keeping a relatively low profile while shooting his star-producer sequel-to-a-sequel, "Mission: Impossible III."
