X-Men fans, rejoice! The first footage from Gavin Hood‘s X-Men Origins: Wolverine flick debuted today at Comic-Con, revealing “bad ass” clips… and the screen debut of one particularly long-awaited member of the X-Men family.

According to IGN Movies, Jackman made a surprise appearance at this morning’s 20th Century Fox presentation of Wolverine, the upcoming X-Men spin-off that will reveal the military experimental origin of James Howlett AKA Logan AKA Wolverine.

Fresh from wrapping production, Jackman introduced footage of “berserker rage” that should leave fans panting for the film’s May 2009 release. Not only did Comic-Con attendees get to see how Logan got his infamous adamantium claws and skeleton, they were also treated to glimpses at familiar comics characters Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber), Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Wraith (Will. I. Am.) and The Blob (Kevin Durand).

And although the sight of Wolverine ripping and clawing his way out of the Weapon X compound was a thrill in itself, the inhabitants of Hall H got a surprise treat with the introduction of a certain card-throwing Cajun. Gambit, played by Friday Night Lights actor Taylor Kitsch, will make his first big-screen appearance in Wolverine (after being conspicuously absent from all three previous X-Men films) and was shown in scenes riding a motorcycle and hurling his signature kinetically-charged playing cards.
