Aussie filmmaker Russell Mulcahy, best known for directing the cult classic "Highlander" and its widely detested sequel, has been tapped to direct "Resident Evil: Extinction" for producer Paul W.S. Anderson and leading lady Milla Jovovich.

Says Variety: Coming soon is "the third installment in the "Resident Evil" franchise, titled "Resident Evil: Extinction," which is set to begin production in 2006. Russell Mulcahy will direct with Milla Jovovich reprising her starring role."

In addition to the first two "Highlander" flicks, genre fans know Mr. Mulcahy for 1984’s "Razorback," 1991’s "Ricochet," 1994’s "The Shadow" … and not a whole lot else that’s all that worthy of note.
