Picture Gallery of the Week:
District 9

Like the rest of the promotional material out there for District 9,
these newest images are interesting, curiosity-grabbing, but reveal scant
little about what the movie is really about. Fortunately, we can encourage
you to take the risk: District 9‘s tracking with an insanely strong,
Certified Fresh
percentage on the Tomatometer
. Will this be the perfect way to cap off
what’s been a bizarrely offbeat summer?

Poster of the Week:

Gentlemen Broncos

From the ether of a slow week for movie posters emerges this sheet of
cardboard cutouts, gnarly colors, and horrible fashion. Gentlemen Broncos
is the upcoming film from Jared Hess and as you can

see from the trailer
(we’ll have that up on RT next week), it takes the
Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre aesthetic to a dizzying
extreme. It’s an explosion of baroque quirk that I genuinely look forward to
being subjected to. View the poster.

Video of the Week:

Ponyo
clips

I wrote

this week’s retrospective
on Hayao Miyazaki and it made me recognize
again what an influence and inspiration he’s been. Not just my admiration
for his films, but the guiding principles behind them: compassion, valor,
and non-stop examinations of man’s role in a natural world. Ponyo,
his latest, does not disappoint.
