Franzoni to Make His Directorial Debut With a "Joint"

Screenwriter David Franzoni ("Gladiator") will adapt the 2000 Chan-wook Park film "Joint Security Area" into an English-language version, which will also mark the scribe’s directorial debut.

The Hollywood Reporter says the "film is a controversial drama about the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea — using the backdrop of the U.S.-Mexico border and illegal immigration." What’s most interesting here is that Mr. Franzoni himself, and not a major studio, contacted the filmmakers with his remake concept.
