Variety brings us the story of aspiring screenwriter Joe Lovero, and the long, painful road he took to getting his first script sold. But the good news is that Universal just bought his "Book of Leo," which is the story of a go-nowhere guy who decides to get a whole lot of living done in the week before his 30th birthday.
Seann William Scott is the leading candidate for the title role.
Seems that Mr. Lovero has had quite a few close calls in Hollywood over the years, but had all but given up on the screenwriting thing. He was working as an New York City insurance adjustor when the deal was finally signed … but better late than never, I always say.
Producer Marc Platt will help to steer the spec script into a winning movie, and Universal will be there for the bankroll and the distribution.
