Benicio Del Toro will star in and produce a remake of Lon Chaney Jr.‘s 1941 horror classic, "The Wolf Man," Variety reports.

Del Toro, an avid Wolf Man fan and collector himself, will play the titular hairy hero after he wraps Steven Soderbergh‘s Che Guevara biopic "Guerrilla" next year. As in the original, Del Toro will play a man bitten by a werewolf in Victorian England, although scripting by Andrew Kevin Walker ("Se7en") will update the story.

From Variety: "Walker spent several months working on some frightening new twists to a familiar tale, adding several characters and plot points that take advantage of cutting-edge visual effects technology."

"The expectation is that "The Wolf Man" will be a summer 2008 tentpole."
