Cameron Diaz Climbs Into Richard Kelly's "Box"

Wondering what’s next for "Donnie Darko" director Richard Kelly? (I mean besides that "Southland Tales" flick that’s been sitting on a shelf somewhere…)

It’s a project he’s been attached to for quite some time now, but it looks like the arrival of leading lady Cameron Diaz has the ball rolling on Richard Kelly’s "The Box." Based on a story by genre master Richard Matheson, the story’s about … well, it’s about a woman who gains possession of a mysterious box. If you want to know more, you’ll just have to read the story called "Button, Button." (I highly recommend it.)

The production company is aiming for a PG-13 rating on this one, but the source material’s not all that "adult," so the rating shouldn’t be much of a hindrance. For his part, Mr. Kelly says ""My hope is to make a film that is incredibly suspenseful and broadly commercial, while still retaining my artistic sensibility." Good luck, Rich!

Horror fans may be pleased to learn that Eli Roth has been collaborating on the screenplay with Kelly.
