Battle of the "Poseidon"'s!

Most of the movie geeks out there are well aware that director Wolfgang Petersen ("The NeverEnding Story," "The Perfect Storm") is working on a remake of "The Poseidon Adventure" for Warner Bros. The big-budget spectacle is presently penciled in for a May 2006 release. But now comes word of a competing project that will almost definitely hit the airwaves well before WB has their flick in the can. NBC recently bought the rights to an entirely different "Poseidon" adaptation (all of the movies are based on the novel by Paul Gallico), which they plan to air some time between now and May of next year. The network version, which stars Steve Guttenberg, Rutger Hauer, Adam Baldwin, C. Thomas Howell & Bryan Brown and was helmed by actor-turned-director John Putch, should hit living rooms during the next "sweeps" period – and may just cause a few ulcers over at WB.
