He was a comic book in the ’50s and a cartoon in the ’60s. And while the big screen version of "Astro Boy" has been discussed for quite some time, it looks like it’ll soon become a reality — thanks to the folks who are presently hard at work on next year’s "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot.
From The Hollywood Reporter & IGN FilmForce: "Astro Boy’s long journey to the silver screen has taken yet another step forward with the project’s screen rights being acquired by a new entity. Imagi Animation Studios, who are making the upcoming CG feature version of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," have optioned the rights from Japan’s Tezuka Productions. As with their TMNT movie, Imagi plans to turn Astro Boy into a CG-animated feature-length film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They plan a 2009 release."
