Sony’s animated penguin comedy "Surf’s Up" won’t hit theaters until the summer of ’07, but producers have already locked up a pretty impressive roster of voice-actors, including Jeff Bridges, Zooey Deschanel, James Woods, Jane Krakowski, and Shia LeBeouf.
The CGI penguin party is "goes behind the scenes in the world of competitive penguin surfing. The film profiles up-and-coming surf penguin Cody Maverick (LaBeouf) as he enters his first pro competition. Bridges will voice the character of "the Geek," a washed-up, overweight and cantankerous King Penguin who becomes young Cody’s mentor. Deschanel will play Lani, the penguin lifeguard of Pen Gu Island’s South Beach," says Variety.
Jon Heder, Mario Cantone, Michael McKean, and Brian Benben have also been enlisted to fill out the supporting cast.
Co-directed by a pair of big-screen animation veterans, Chris Buck ("Tarzan") & Ash Brannon ("Toy Story 2"), "Surf’s Up" looks to catch a tidal wave of box office bucks two summers from now.
