AMC Theaters Offer a Money-Back Guarantee for "Cinderella Man"

In an exceedingly rare move from a theater chain, AMC Theaters promises to refund your ticket price if you can walk out of "Cinderella Man" and honestly say that you didn’t enjoy the film.

According to Variety, the chain once ran a similar promotion for "Mystic Pizza" — but that was back in 1988.

Ron Howard‘s "Cinderella Man" was once seen as a relatively sure bet for the grown-up moviegoers out there, but the film has barely cracked the $50 million mark, thus prompting this unique move from AMC Theaters. "We felt it was getting lost and we needed to bring more attention to it," says AMC spokesperson Pam Blase.

Universal’s reaction to the promotion? "They always were vocal about how much they loved the movie, and they said we’ve got to do something to stimulate people to go … I give them lots of ‘attaboys’ for being so bold," was the response from Uni distribution head Nikki Rocco.

So the bottom line, movie fans, is this: If you haven’t seen "Cinderella Man" yet, and you think it’s something you might enjoy, be sure to hit an AMC theater this weekend; it’s not like you have anything to lose!
