“Intense, twisted, bloody, and strangely funny.” These are just a few words critics are using to describe Drew Hancock’s new horror film, Companion, that just hit theaters Jan. 31. The cast recently sat down to interview each other for Fandango and shared some background about their characters, which emoji they would be, and all the deets when it comes to working on a horror film.

Megan Suri: For Jack [Quaid], Josh is not your average villain. What makes him different from any other character you’ve played in the past?

Jack Quaid: I think the key to playing a villain is not to see [your character] as a villain. Try to see it as whatever your character is going through, it’s right by him, you know? and I think that Josh is just a supremely frustrated guy. I think Josh is a person who has never heard the words, ‘I love you.’ I think that was kind of my key into the character. And then everything that happens in the movie, happens, I think, because of that.
