2019 Critics Choice Awards Winners: The Full List
Two surprise ties, plus Roma dominates the film awards, while The Americans and Mrs. Maisel take home three TV awards each.
The Broadcast Film Critics Association’s Critics Choice Awards were handed out Sunday night, honoring some of 2018’s best films and television series. Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma was a big winner for film, with the movie taking out Best Picture, Best Foreign Language Film, and Cuarón himself winning Best Director and for Cinematography. Black Panther won big in the craft fields for Costume Design, Visual Effects, and Production Design. In the Best Actress field, Lady Gaga and Glenn Close tied – so, Gaga fans, she is still in the Oscar race. For TV, the big winners were The Americans (Best Drama, Best Actor in a Drama Series, Supporting Actor in a Drama Series), and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Best Comedy Series, Best Actress in a Comedy Series, Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series).
What do the film wins mean for the Oscars? Well, Academy members and BFCA members seem to share the same tastes: eight of the last 10 Critic’s Choice winners went on the claim the Best Picture prize. The awards are broadcast the night before Oscar nomination voting closes on January 14; last-minute Academy voters could potentially use the BFCA’s choices as a cue for what film to back for Best Picture.
