Warner Bros. is breathing new life into the Gremlins franchise, with a brand new chapter slated to hit theaters on November 19, 2027. The announcement came from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg will once again serve as executive producer via Amblin Entertainment, while Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) is stepping in to both direct and produce. The screenplay is being crafted by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the duo behind Final Destination: Bloodlines.

Additional producers include Kristie Macosko Krieger, Holly Bario, Michael Barnathan, and Mark Radclifffe.

While plot details and casting remain under wraps, the revival follows the success of Secrets of the Mogwai, an animated prequel series that debuted in 2023 and ran for two seasons on HBO Max, rekindling interest in the mischievous creatures.

The original Gremlins film, released in 1984 and directed by Joe Dante, combined horror and comedy to introduce audiences to Gizmo, a cuddly creature known as a Mogwai with strict care rules that, when broken, unleash chaos in terrifying and amusing ways. The film became a massive hit, earning over $160 million worldwide.

The sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, arrived in 1990. Though it failed to match the original’s box office success, it has since gone on to amass a cult following, even inspiring a popular Key & Peele sketch.

The upcoming film will mark the franchise’s first theatrical release in 37 years, promising a nostalgic yet fresh return for old and new fans.
