Chris Pratt is once again lending his voice to one of pop culture’s most iconic cats. The actor is set to reprise his role as the sarcastic, lasagna-obsessed Garfield in a newly announced sequel to The Garfield Movie. The news was unveiled via social media, confirming Pratt’s return.

Originally released in 2024, The Garfield Movie was distributed by Sony Pictures and proved to be a box office success, grossing more than $230 million worldwide. The film reintroduced audiences to Garfield’s trademark wit and appetite, appealing to both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers. With a strong box office performance and a large fan base, a sequel was highly anticipated.

The second film is currently in the early development stages, with a search underway for both a screenwriter and director to guide the next chapter of Garfield’s story. Jim Davis, the legendary cartoonist who created Garfield in 1978, will again serve as executive producer. He will be joined by Bridget McMeel of Amuse.

Alcon Entertainment is once again producing the follow-up, with company co-founders and co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson returning to lead the production. They will be joined by producers John Cohen, Steven P. Wegner, and Pratt himself.

In addition to his role as Garfield, Pratt has a busy slate ahead. He will next be seen in Amazon MGM’s upcoming action-thriller Mercy, as well as in Way of the Warrior Kid, an adaptation of the popular children’s book series being developed by Apple and Skydance.
