A sequel to the 2010 film The Social Network is currently in development at Sony Pictures, with Aaron Sorkin (Moneyball, The Trial of the Chicago 7) set to direct. The Academy Award-winning writer has penned the screenplay for the sequel to the original film, which was directed by David Fincher.
The sequel, tentatively named The Social Network Part II, draws inspiration from the Wall Street Journal’s “The Facebook Files,” a series of investigative articles published in October 2021 that revealed more about the inner workings of Facebook, the world’s largest social network.
Casting details for the sequel have not yet been announced, so it is unclear if cast members from the first film, such as lead actor Jesse Eisenberg (who starred as Mark Zuckerberg), are set to return. The first film chronicled the creation of Facebook and featured a star-studded cast, including Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, and Dakota Johnson. Sorkin took home the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The project is being produced by Todd Black, Peter Rice, Aaron Sorkin, and Stuart Besser.
