Before Ant-Man premiered back in 2015, expectations weren’t exactly huge. There had been a change in directors, the movie looked a little slight – especially coming off the back of city-destroying epic, Ultron – and there were questions about whether the audience would buy into the story of a tiny, wise-cracking dad-hero who flew around on a winged insect. The doubters were proven wrong however when the movie opened to mostly critical acclaim (it’s Certified Fresh at 82%) and audiences fell hard for reformed kinda-criminal, Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd.
Expectations for the sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, which opens on July 6, are significantly higher. First up, it’s the only MCU movie to date with a female superhero getting top title billing, albeit a shared top billing – so there’s a landmark factor. Secondly, we already know and like these characters, and know what director Peyton Reed, who returns to helm the sequel, is capable of. Finally, there’s the whole “How does this relate to Infinity War?” question that people have been waiting several months to have answered.
This weekend, Disney and Marvel Studios showed the film to journalists and film writers, and they’re already voicing their opinions of the movie on Twitter. Here is what they’re saying in the world’s earliest reactions to Ant-Man and the Wasp. Check back in with Rotten Tomatoes on the morning of Wednesday June 26, when the review embargo lifts, to read reviews and see what the Tomatometer for the movie will be.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is probably the closest Marvel will ever get to #nicecore. there’s no villain! just… mild impediments. And teamwork! I love teamwork.
…everyone says “quantum” a lot, and then they joke *about* how everyone says “quantum” a lot. fun, funny, and forgettable.

COULD IT BE THE FUNNIEST MARVEL MOVIE YET?
I loved #AntManAndTheWasp. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much in a Marvel movie, though Ragnarok is up there. Nice change of pace from Infinity War. The emsemble is perfect!
– Joseph Deckelmeier, The Hashtag ShowAnt-Man is my favorite Marvel movie. This is the sequel I’d been hoping for. I was grinning from ear to ear from start to finish. Irresistibly good fun. As exciting as it is funny, it locks along nicely and it’s visually stunning! #antmanandthewasp
– Simon ThompsonIn a surprise to no one @MrPeytonReed’s #AntManAndTheWasp is a ton of fun and had the crowd laughing beginning to end. @MarvelStudios has yet another winner. @Kevfeige makes it look so easy when we all know what he’s done is next to impossible.
– Steven Weintraub, ColliderWhat a year for Marvel! Absolutely loved #AntManAndTheWasp. Stellar ensemble and the humor is spot on. (Laughed myself to tears during one sequence!) The tech is used to great effect yet again. Unique, highly entertaining ride I can’t wait to go on again.

DOES ANYONE ELSE STEAL THE SHOW?
Ant Man and The Wasp is good old fashion fun. A nice change of pace from the other Marvel films earlier and is entertaining from beginning to end. Paul Rudd is hilarious and Evangeline Lilly was so bad ass. #AntManAndTheWasp
– Scott Menzel, WeLiveNetworkI thought @realmichaelpena stole the show. @Tip was great. They need to give the X-Cons their own movie. ? ? is my second favorite franchise.
– The Extraordinary XillaAnt-Man and The Wasp is Marvel’s best sequel since The Winter Solider. @EvangelineLilly is one of my new favorite super heroes. @MrPeytonReed knocked it out of the park!! Tremendous movie!

DOES IT GIVE US SOME DAMN INFINITY WAR ANSWERS?
Just saw #AntManandtheWasp. Does it answer the “#InfinityWar question”? YES.
– David Daniel, CNNI have emerged from #AntManAndTheWasp and bring good news. This movie is a total blast. Liked it more than the original (which I dug). It’s remains self-contained in the crazy MCU of it all, which is a good thing. Doesn’t ignore its connections to that world, though.
– Chris E. Hayner, Game Spot
HOW DO THE POST-CREDITS SCENES STACK UP?
#AntManAndTheWasp is cool and all, but the end credit scene is the best part of the whole film and the only thing I can think about right now.
