After four seasons, Game of Thrones fans are used to the idea that the most exciting episode of the year is typically the penultimate one. But Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are teasing this Sunday’s “The Children” as “the best finale we’ve ever done, bar none,” according to a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “The performances from our cast, the direction from Alex Graves, the VFX work, the new [music] cues from Ramin Djawadi — all of it came together in perhaps the finest hour we’ve produced. We’re immensely proud of ‘The Children.’ And a little intimidated by the episode, because now we have to get back to the business of season five and figure out a way to top it.” As if you already couldn’t wait.
Ahead of this week’s season five premiere, ABC Family announced its first-ever multi-season renewal by greenlighting seasons six and seven of Pretty Little Liars. The TV drama which initially focused on four friends trying to solve a murder in their high school is ABC Family’s most popular show to date — both in ratings and social media buzz. “Pretty Little Liars has taken its place in the zeitgeist and reigns supreme in pop culture,” Tom Ascheim, president of ABC Family, said in a statement. “I am glad to bring another two seasons to our audience because ‘A’ has a lot in store for our Liars.” Seasons six and seven will air in mid-2015 and mid-2016 respectively.
By way of YouTube this week, BBC Worldwide announced the upcoming “Doctor Who: World Tour,” which will begin in the UK on Aug. 7 and finish in Brazil on Aug. 19. The 12-day, seven-city, five-continent event will introduce the world to the new Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, kicking off in the Welsh capital of Cardiff. Capaldi’s onscreen companion Jenna Coleman, and the show’s lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, will also tour the globe with the Tardis for the largest-ever promotional undertaking in Doctor Who‘s 50-year history. Shortly after Bryan Cranston took the Tony this week for his role as Lyndon B. Johnson in the new Broadway play, “All the Way,” Deadline.com reported that Steven Spielberg is in the process of optioning it as a TV miniseries through his Amblin banner. Known to have relationships with both Cranston and playwright Robert Schenkkan, Spielberg has reportedly seen the play a couple of times. No word on whether AMC or HBO would pick up the miniseries, but Deadline says the process is “all going to move very quickly.”
Hold onto your hats! American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson revealed a first glimpse of her new role as conjoined twins in the upcoming season of “Freak Show,” via Twitter today. To accompany the picture of her new characters, Paulson said, “So excited to be playing Bette AND Dot this season. Two heads are better than one! #AHSFREAKSHOW” Amen, sisters.
