Supergirl Poll: Who Makes a Better Superhero — Mon-El or Guardian?

We make a case for both new heroes — you cast the deciding vote

Mehcad Brooks, Chris Wood, and Melissa Benoist in Supergirl (Bettina Strauss /The CW)

Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) has two new allies to help her fight villains who threaten National City: Mon-El (Chris Wood) is another alien from Daxam, while Guardian is her old pal and CatCo colleague James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), using a suit invented by Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) to enhance his strength.

Kara/Supergirl has already made it clear whom she prefers. She’s training Mon-El herself, and she’s scolded James for putting his life at risk.

But Rotten Tomatoes wants to hear from you. Guardian and Mon-El both have pros and cons, so check out this analysis of their assets and vote in the poll at the bottom on whether Mon-El or Guardian makes a better superhero. (Plus, read RT’s interview with Mon-El actor Chris Wood here.)

Powers

Mon-El: He has Daxamian powers here on Earth. That’s basically the same as Supergirl’s powers. The super strength and indestructibility are the most important. He’s a match for any super villains who show up, and he can’t be killed in just any ol’ street fight.

Guardian: James only has his Guardian suit. It enhances his strength, but he’s still mortal. A lot of things could kill him. Even if they don’t get through the suit, a bad guy could drop him from the sky, and that suit won’t stop the fall from crushing his internal organs.

Experience

Mon-El: Mon El is still in basic training, and he’s messing up. Like, a lot. Like, little girls getting their heads blown up. OK, it was only a cardboard girl, but, as Supergirl points out, she could’ve been real.

Guardian: James has been there for all of Superman’s adventures. Even if he was only on the ground, he’s seen what it takes to be a hero. He’s also been a photojournalist, which has put him in harm’s way both in superhero battles and rea-world crises. He knows how to handle himself.

Motivation

Supergirl - Chris Wood as Mike/Mon-El (Robert Falconer/The CW)

Mon-El: Mon El may get there, but right now he’s doing it because he got caught using his powers to shakedown deadbeats. And he wants to impress Kara/Supergirl. Because…❤️!

Guardian: James wants this. Bad. Still, wanting it doesn’t mean you’re qualified. You can want to be a doctor, but you still have to go to medical school.

Feelings for Kara

Mon-El: Mon El finally came clean. He remembers the kiss and admits he cares about Kara. Is this clouding Kara’s judgment?

Guardian: James was all in. He left Lucy Lane to date Kara, and when Kara got her promotion, she realized she needed to be free. Chances are, the show’s writers needed her to be free too, but it complicates Guardian working with Supergirl and the DEO now.

Costume

Mon-El: He doesn’t have a costume yet. He’s the plainclothes superhero for now. Winn just got the job to design him a suit, but Winn’s so tired with all his Guardian duties, who knows when he’ll get around to it?

Guardian: Winn made Guardian an awesome suit, even if it’s not quite bulletproof. Yet. That seems like something Winn can fix.

What do you think? Vote now to decide who makes the better superhero between Supergirl’s two new prospects: Guardian or Mon-El. Then tell us why in the comments!
