NBC Cancels Community After Five Seasons, Renews Hannibal

School's out forever?

Variety reported Friday that NBC cancelled Community after five seasons. The show had been struggling with ratings, even after the return of its creator Dan Harmon this year.

Joel McHale, who played the show’s main character Jeff Winger, tweeted a single hashtag on Friday, #darkesttimeline:

This is disappointing news for fans of the show whose mantra of late has been “Six Seasons and a Movie” — which is still not outside the realm of possibility. Sony Pictures TV could try to find another home for Community on cable or streaming a la Arrested Development.

NBC also announced that it will be cancelling its drama Revolution (88 percent) after two seasons, and freshmen series Growing Up Fisher (36 percent), Crisis (61 percent), and Believe (36 percent).

In renewal news, NBC ordered a third season of Hannibal. Season two was Certified Fresh at 100 percent on the Tomatometer. They also picked up About a Boy (Certified Fresh at 76 percent) and The Blacklist (Certified Fresh at 82 percent) for second seasons, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for a 16th season.
