If you’re a regular RT reader, then you’re probably familiar with our end-of-year Golden Tomato Awards. The long and short of it is that we compile a list of the films released each year and award the ones in various categories that achieved the highest Tomatometer ratings. Last year, for example, Pixar’s Wall-E won the GTA for highest-rated wide release film, and the documentary Man on Wire won for highest-rated limited release.
This year, however, we’ll be incorporating a new award; specifically, we’ll be including a category for the highest Community-rated film, period. And you know what this means, right? That’s right! It means that you will actually have a say in which movie is chosen for the award! If you haven’t yet explored the movie-reviewing functionality in our Community section, this is the perfect opportunity for you to register an account (if you don’t already have one) and make sure your voice is heard.
To help you get started on the process, here are ten of the most critically acclaimed (according to the Tomatometer, of course) films to open so far this year. These aren’t the only movies in the running of course; this is simply a jumping off point to review all your favorites of 2009. So what are you waiting for? Tell us what the best movie of ’09 is!
