Fans of "The Godfather Part 2" and "Heat" may want to read this: Looks like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are about to reunite to make another crime thriller. And soon, too!
The project is called "Righteous Kill." It’ll be directed by Jon Avnet ("Fried Green Tomatoes") and written by Russell Gewirtz ("Inside Man"). Plot details are sketchy, but apparently the duo will play cops chasing down a serial killer. Production is scheduled to begin in New England later this year.
The $60 million project will come from Nu Image / Millennium Films, two outfits not exactly known for "Pacino caliber" projects, but hey, if that’s what it takes to get these guys back onscreen together, I’ll hold my tongue for now.
"This is an event in world history," says Nu Image chief Avi Lerner, "They were in two scenes in ‘Heat.’ In this movie, they are in the whole thing together." Cool. So maybe it’ll suck eggs, but at least two good actors will be in the same shot together.
