In order to show support for the Time’s Up initiative—a legal defense fund organized by some of the most prominent women in Hollywood to provide subsidized legal support to those who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or abuse in the workplace—celebrities vowed to wear all black on the red carpet.

The night was full of female empowerment messages during speeches, but none was as fired up as Oprah’s impassioned Cecil B. DeMille Award acceptance speech.
With every word she speaks, my brain is legitimately screaming OPRAH ? IS ?QUEEN? #GoldenGlobes
— Ellen Sweeney (@ellsween) January 8, 2018
This is masterful. I need the audio so that I can listen to this every morning before my shower and coffee. #GoldenGlobes

“A new day is on the horizon!” YES IT IS OPRAH!!! #TimesUp

The goosebump-inducing moment was followed by the directing award, which Natalie Portman noted wasn’t quite that diverse of a category.

Earlier in the night, Seth Meyers had joked that she should run for president.
While plenty of women winners were given ample time to talk, the producers started cutting off speeches in the first hour of the night.
It’s always interesting to see who doesn’t get cut off and who does #GoldenGlobes
— Echo (@EchoDoesRadio) January 8, 2018
Interesting to see who they give the cut off music to. #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/f2HGz88nJb
— EL-A (@LBoogie_NYC) January 8, 2018
They better start playing music when actors are giving their speeches too. It’s so rude when they try to cut/hurry anyone who isn’t an actor off the stage #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/eyByWF506P
— ? (@hoyasssss) January 8, 2018
But really, I'm convinced they're cutting the time of all the men's speeches this year so the women don't get cut off #GoldenGlobes #TIMESUP
— Chloe Ewer (@LaVieTheatre) January 8, 2018
Still hate it when that stupid music plays to cut people off #goldenglobes #rude

The duos who presented awards together were truly inspired.
